The 2026 Restaurant Review Benchmark
Rating benchmarks by segment, response rate targets, and the public research behind why reviews move revenue.
Where do these numbers come from?
The figures here are drawn from public research and illustrative industry ranges. They are benchmarks to orient against, not a private dataset. An operator's real numbers vary by brand and market. Segment rating ranges and the benchmark table are industry estimates and targets, provided for orientation, not measured population averages.
Why do restaurant reviews move revenue?
97 percent of guests read reviews before they decide where to eat, and 73 percent of restaurant reviews live on Google, right next to your map pin. Research out of Harvard Business School, by Michael Luca, found that a one-star increase on a major review platform drove a 5 to 9 percent lift in revenue for independent restaurants. The effect is strongest for places that live and die by walk-in traffic.
What response rate should a restaurant target?
The average business takes 72 hours or more to respond. 88 percent of consumers say they would use a business that responds to all of its reviews. Responding to every review within 24 hours is the target that separates an active profile from a neglected one.
How do you know where your own stores stand?
Replio tells you exactly where each of your locations stands against the benchmark, in real time. Track rating, response rate, and review volume across every store, and turn the reviews into the fix that moves the number. See it on your own reviews.
